💡 Explanation
Children have the right to attend barnehage (kindergarten). Barnehage is a voluntary service for preschool children, usually from one to five years old. Parents can choose whether to enrol their child in barnehage, and for how much time. Children are therefore not obliged to attend barnehage.

Usually you must pay a user fee to have your child in barnehage. There is a maximum price, so no one pays too much. Some children get a free place, for example if the family has low income.
All barnehager must have an educational programme that helps children develop and learn to live and function with others. Barnehagen should promote friendship, language, play and curiosity. Play is an important tool in learning.
