💡 Explanation

In Norway, elections are held every two years, alternating between parliamentary and local elections. This means that parliamentary elections are held every four years.

The next parliamentary election will be in 2029, followed by one in 2033. In years without a parliamentary election, there are elections for the county and municipal councils, which are often referred to as local elections. The next local election will be in 2027, followed by 2031.

You must turn 18 during the election year to vote in parliamentary, county, and municipal elections. Foreign nationals can vote in county and municipal elections if they have lived in Norway for the past three years before election day. For example, you may lose your right to vote if you work as a spy for a foreign power.

The government must approve which parties are eligible to run in an election. This is because parties must meet specific requirements. You can read more about these requirements in the Political Parties Act.

Kongehuset

Eksempelbilde, Norwegian Citizenship Test

Kongen i Norge heter Harald.
